Health Service Fee
Brandeis University has established an optional annual fee for graduate students to cover part of the cost of health care provided at the Brandeis Health Center. All students who wish to use the Health Center for their care must pay this fee. This fee is not to be confused with the cost of the Qualifying Student Health Insurance Plan (QSHIP), the university-sponsored insurance plan offered to students who do not have private insurance.
The Health Service Fee covers the cost of visits to Health Center and a limited number of visits with the Psychological Counseling Center. The Health Center does not offer fee-for-service medical care.
The university will not be responsible for health care expenses that are not part of the Health Center services or covered by the QSHIP. The following costs are the responsibility of the student:
- Any claims not paid by your private insurance. Contact your insurance before seeing physicians to make sure they are in network.
- Any claims not paid by the Qualifying Student Health Insurance Plan (QSHIP). Download the QSHIP brochure (PDF) or see the insurance coordinator.
- Laboratory tests
- X-rays not covered by insurance
- Dental care
- Immunizations
- Routine eye care
Students Who Choose Not Pay the Health Service Fee
Students who choose not pay the optional Health Service Fee do not receive medical services at the Health Center, regardless of type of insurance. These students are responsible for finding providers that accept their insurance. The Health Center maintains lists of local providers, and will share this information with any student.
Brandeis also has a Summer Health Fee for graduate students who do not pay the Health Service Fee during the academic year. This fee covers visits to the Health Center during the summer.
