Ronald D. Liebowitz, the ninth president of Brandeis University

Dear Members of the Brandeis Community,

It is with great pleasure that I write to officially announce the start of Brandeis’ 75th anniversary year.

Brandeis is a young institution compared to our peers. But we have come exceedingly far in a relatively short period of time. Since its founding in 1948 by members of the American Jewish community, who came together to establish a new kind of university that welcomed talented students and faculty from all backgrounds and belief systems, Brandeis has grown exponentially, both in its scope and its mission.

Today, Brandeis is respected as a top tier, internationally-renowned research university, with leading programs in the liberal arts. Most importantly, it is a place that, thanks to its extraordinary people, has continued to create powerful change in all corners of the globe and across many different fields.

Beginning this month, and going through June 2024, we will celebrate Brandeis’ lasting impact, and what it means to be a Brandeisian. I hope you will register for our main 75th anniversary celebration, which will take place from Friday, October 13 through Sunday, October 15, 2023, and will bring together faculty, staff, students, families, alumni, and friends of Brandeis. It is going to be a fun, joyous, and engaging weekend, featuring a long list of exciting speakers.

Additional activities have been planned throughout the year around four guiding themes – our founding Jewish values, innovation in education, repairing the world, and community. I encourage you to check the current 75th anniversary calendar for those events that interest you. The calendar will continue to be updated as new events are scheduled.

During the course of this year, we will also take time as a community to reflect on our unique history and the opportunities that lie ahead for our next 75 years. Keep an eye out for further information about how you can be involved in setting the course for our future.

I am grateful to be a part of a community of people who care so much for each other and for this remarkable institution. I look forward to celebrating with each of you over the coming year.

Best regards,

Ron
