Global Service Initiative
Celebrate Brandeis at 75 by making a difference in your community.
Brandeis students and faculty have always demonstrated a deep concern for the underdog and an unwavering commitment to social justice.
To celebrate Brandeis at 75, all are invited to take part in a community challenge, designed to make a positive mark on the world. Sign up for the acts of community engagement you’ll complete during our anniversary year ending June 2024 and help repair the world.
The Community Challenge
For 75 years, Brandeis has been cultivating students to leave our campus and to change the world. Brandeisians have impacted the local and global landscape since 1948. We have prepared students to identify the unjust, speak up for change and to DO the work. This year we are asking you to track your impact and to share it with us. Help us show how Brandeis is repairing the world. We are challenging our community to perform a combined 75,000 acts of repairing the world throughout the year. To get involved, visit our directory of engagement opportunities. Or, if you already regularly engage with your community, tell us about it. We want to show the amazing impact Brandeisians have, all around the world. Pledge your act of community engagement and help us track these amazing efforts!
Regional Engagement Opportunities
We invite you to contribute to our Community Challenge as part of a group. Register today for a group activity to make a difference and at the same time connect (or reconnect) with fellow Brandeisians. And don’t forget to pledge your act to the Community Challenge!
If you have an idea for a community engagement program for Brandeisians, please contact Steph Grimes at grimes@brandeis.edu.
Celebrate Pride Month 2024 and participate in Brandeis’ Global Service Initiative by providing company, entertainment and food to New York LGBTQ+ Seniors at Services & Advocacy for LGBTQ+ Elders' (SAGE) Annual Day of Service. Hours are from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., but feel free to take a two- or four-hour shift or stay all day. This is a small event; maximum number of volunteers at any time is 20. This event is sponsored by the LGBTQ+ Alumni Network and Alumni Club of New York City.
Questions? Please contact the Office of Alumni Relations at alumnievents@brandeis.edu or 781-736-4012.
Give & Go, Brandeis' annual household item donation program is back, and we need your help! Volunteers will be asked to accept and sort donations during shifts at various times. This work will be critical in helping divert waste during move-out and may require light lifting, bending, and generally handling used belongings. You can also sign up for our general call list to be contacted on an as-needed basis. Donations will benefit amazing organizations, like Grad Bag and Household Goods. Visit our donation programs page for donation guidelines and our volunteer registration form.
75th Anniversary Campus Celebration Weekend
When we come together on campus to celebrate 75 years, we will also have a number of amazing opportunities for you to make a difference in our surrounding communities. To participate, please bring items (specified below) to donate or spend some time contributing to our efforts on campus!
Support Brandeis' annual Halloween for the Hungry! This drive is more important than ever, as food insecurity rates in Massachusetts are reaching as high as 22%. Donations will support Healthy Waltham’s monthly food pantry, neighborhood satellite pantries, and food delivery programs.
The Waltham Group’s Hunger and Homelessness program and the Office of Alumni Relations will be collecting non-perishable items around campus during Brandeis' 75th Anniversary campus celebration.
Support the Hiatt Career Center’s Career Closet by donating professional attire during this unique on-campus drive. Brandeis students are supported by the Career Closet on campus by giving them access to free professional attire for job interviews, career fairs, networking events, and other career-oriented activities. Our goal is to help students feel prepared, professional, confident, and comfortable when making a first impression, without having to spend a lot of money on expensive clothing.
Donations typically include business suits, blouses, dress pants, skirts, dress shoes, ties, and other accessories. Items not chosen for the Hiatt Career Closet will be donated to the Waltham Partnership for Youth to support the Waltham High School closet.
Join other members of the Brandeis community as we build 500 hygiene kits for our Waltham community. Healthy Waltham operates a weekly food pantry and these kits are one of their most popular items. Kits include items like deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, and shampoo. Volunteers will package these to donate to the pantry.

Gift of Life’s mission is to cure blood cancer through cellular therapy. At Gift of Life, we believe every person battling blood cancer deserves a second chance at life — and we are determined to make it happen.
We are singularly passionate about engaging the public to help us get everyone involved in curing blood cancer, whether as a donor, a volunteer or a financial supporter.
