Applications Due February 1, 2025

The Brandeis University President's Initiative on Antisemitism is pleased to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 2026-2027 Middle & High School Educators' Institute on Israel and Antisemitism. We invite applications from educators and educational leaders (humanities teachers, directors of teaching and curriculum, principals, district curriculum directors, superintendents, heads of school, union leaders, and DEI professionals, et. al.) from public and independent schools throughout the U.S. Educators are required to apply as a member of a team of 4-10 individuals from within a particular region and community.

The 2026-2027 Institute is a year-long commitment comprised of two intensive summer segments with additional remote or regional educational opportunities offered during the intervening academic year.

Brandeis University Intensive - July 27–31, 2026

  • Summer 1: educators participate in an intensive five-day residency at Brandeis University.

Israel Study Tour - July 8–16, 2027*

  • Summer 2: the cohort reconvenes to attend a six-day intensive study tour in Israel.

The Educators' Institute recognizes that many young students in the U.S. learn about Israel primarily through mainstream and social media, where misinformation and disinformation can easily shape their views. Many middle and high school educators feel unprepared to address the complexities of Israel and contemporary antisemitism. They are seeking the knowledge, skills, and support needed to confidently engage with students on these topics in the classroom and within the broader school community.

  1. A solid foundation of knowledge and shared language to explore the complexities of Israeli and Palestinian history and society, as well as contemporary manifestations of antisemitism and antizionism.
  2. Skills to effectively teach these topics in the classroom.
  3. A supportive space outside of school for educators to lean in with curiosity and grapple with complex subject matter, allowing them to model this process for their students.
  4. Opportunities to network with fellow educators and build professional connections.
  5. Exposure to a wide range of educational content, providers and resources.
  6. Access to ongoing learning resources, both online and in-person.

*Dates subject to change. Israel Study Tour may include visit to the West Bank if security conditions allow.

“We were respected as intelligent humans, and the learning was for building our own knowledge base. I appreciate that you didn’t tell us how to teach it, but gave us the respect to figure that out according to what’s best in our own contexts but also WITH our new knowledge and confidence on the important topic of antisemitism. ”
