A message from the interim dean

Dear Brandeis Community,

Last week, Brandeis University announced an academic realignment establishing four new schools, including the School of Business and Economics. This is an exciting change that will benefit our global community of students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends, both now and in the future.

Brandeis International Business School, along with Brandeis University’s Department of Economics and undergraduate Business program, will now be known as the School of Business and Economics. This new name represents a bold, future-focused vision. By infusing professional education into the liberal arts, Brandeis is pioneering a first-of-its-kind approach designed to connect rigorous academic learning with practical, career-focused applications.

For current and future students, this reorganization will offer an enriched and more cohesive academic experience. By bringing together undergraduate and graduate programs, students will have greater access to interdisciplinary study, experiential learning and innovative career pathways. Our programs will continue to be grounded in analytical rigor, critical thinking and creative problem-solving, while integrating the broad foundation of a liberal arts education with the global perspective and data-driven demands of today’s economy. Students will graduate not only with deep academic knowledge, but with the adaptable skills and real-world perspectives required to succeed across business, economics, public policy and academia.

For our dedicated faculty and staff, the formation of the School creates exciting new opportunities to shape the future of how business, economics and finance are taught at Brandeis. This integration of related disciplines will encourage fresh approaches to teaching and research and foster collaboration across our once separate schools, departments and programs. This moment also represents a unique opportunity to deliver new and innovative support services for students across functions, including academic affairs, admissions, careers, marketing and student life. We have important work ahead, and I look forward to partnering with you to achieve this vision.

For our talented alumni and friends, who live and work in every corner of the world, the School of Business and Economics will remain a welcoming and inclusive home — one that honors your legacy while embracing a future of academic innovation. Whether you graduated from the Lemberg Program, Graduate School of International Economics and Finance, Brandeis International Business School, or studied business or economics at Brandeis University, you remain a vital part of our proud and growing community. All of us at the School look forward to deepening our engagement with you and continuing to showcase the remarkable career accomplishments of our global alumni network.

This academic realignment reflects Brandeis’ belief that the liberal arts and professional education are not only compatible but mutually reinforcing. As the demands on higher education continue to evolve, we must do the same — reimagining our structures, aligning our programs with the future of work and society, and empowering our students to become thoughtful, agile, technologically adept leaders. Just as the Lemberg Program was created four decades ago to address the emerging challenges of a rapidly globalizing economy, the formation of the School of Business and Economics reflects our enduring mission: to equip students with the knowledge, skills and experience they need to shape — and improve — our fast-changing world.

Thank you for your continued support as we begin this next chapter together.

Sincerely,

Linda Signature
