I have been able to explore areas such as commercial real estate, development and finance by shadowing my father in his own business for many years. Being at Brandeis has exposed me to pressing matters like the effects of innovative and disruptive technologies and social justice. My internship/board position in a minority police officer-led mentorship program in Boston has led me to want to work with revolutionary nonprofit organizations in my area of focus. A couple areas of research I hope to explore through this are the geographic and social impacts of COVID-19 on metro area population densities (with an emphasis on minority communities), the impact severe climate change has on both commercial and residential properties, and the generational potential of emerging technologies such as 3D-printed housing.
I hope to eventually be able to call myself a "renaissance man and serial entrepreneur." Yet, I understand to get to that point I will need to expose myself to many life experiences, mentors and positions. I want to start in commercial real estate, but leave myself open to opportunities to continue to learn. In the end, I hope to be able to recall on these life experiences and share them with a new generation of change-makers, in an academic and/or mentorship capacity.
I have had the pleasure of not only being a business development intern for a non-profit organization, but I have had the opportunity of forming, and then serving on, the program's first board of directors. It has been an amazing experience. I was also chosen to be on one of the university's search committees for a high-level position, which is exposing me to an experience not many students in America will get during their academic careers.
“Simply put, receiving a fellowship is the difference between being able to continue my education or not. It is literally one of the largest motivating factors in me becoming not only who I want to be, but who I know I can be: the best version of myself.”
