The first thing that caught my attention when researching Brandeis was its beginnings. Brandeis truly accepts and celebrates diversity. This is a vital distinction from other schools that was further highlighted in the uniqueness of the application process. It reinforced the hypothesis I had that Brandeis cares about the type of person it accepts in its programs, looking beyond academic and professional achievements.
Besides our match in vision and values, what finally made me choose Brandeis was my experience when visiting the campus. The teachers know the names of the students and you can see that students are much more than just numbers; they are people that add value and enrich the classroom experience.
I am interested in helping entrepreneurs achieve success. In trying to answer the question, “What do entrepreneurs need to succeed?” I want to become the person that fills the gaps and actively help founders achieve sustainable profitability.
Businesses need to be able to collect and analyze data in order to make data-driven decisions. While lots of research in this area regards the application of standardized models to specific problems in order to gather a handful of actionable insights, I am more interested in how these models work and how we can make them work better. I am fascinated by how humans have managed to create algorithms that see beyond what we can see.
I want to work with and create companies that empower their founders to create value for customers in a profitable way. It is my goal to lead by example in the creation of businesses whose focus is on adding value to the customer and by extension driving profits upward, not the other way around.
A business is an opportunity to lead a positive change in the world. As long as it is profitable, that should remain their main driver.
“This fellowship is the gift of having my judgement remain unclouded by financial burden, thus spurring my creativity and desire to experiment, to build something new and to look beyond the obvious paths to make a positive change in society. It has given me the privilege of being free. I am grateful, excited and very happy.”

I was honored to have been selected as one of MIT Technology Review’s Innovators Under 35 in Latin America. I was chosen because of my research in developing a microorganism cocktail that increased plant’s nutrient uptake and hence diminishing the need of fertilizers in commercial crops without having a negative impact on their yield.
