Earlier this semester, 36 PhD students participated in Brandeis University’s first ever Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. Emiliano Gutierrez Popoca, a PhD candidate in English, received the highest place in the Division of Humanities, and, as the highest scorer in the overall competition, went on to compete at the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools (NAGS) 3MT competition in May. Recently, NAGS announced that Popoca came in first place out of a total of 31 participants, a participation record for the regional competition. The committee commented that, “His presentation on Master-Servant Relations in Early Modern Drama has been considered the most comprehensive, engaged and well delivered.”

3MT is a speaking competition, founded at the University of Queensland, designed to showcase graduate student research in three-minute talks to a general audience.
