Congratulating Provost Carol Fierke
April 22, 2021
Dear Brandeis Community,
I am delighted to share that Provost and Executive Vice President of Academic Affairs Carol A. Fierke, PhD’84, has been elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She joins 17 current and emeriti Brandeis faculty members who are members of this prestigious institution, which was established in 1780 by John Adams, John Hancock, and other founders. The Academy aims to "recognize extraordinary people across America and around the world who help solve the world's most urgent challenges, create meaning through art, and contribute to the common good from every field, discipline, and profession."
Carol, whose research focuses on understanding catalysis and molecular recognition in important enzymes and pathways, was one of 252 artists, scholars, scientists, and leaders in the public, nonprofit and private sectors who were selected this year as members. Joining her are two other Brandeis alumnae, Angela Davis '65, professor emerita at the University of California, Santa Cruz and Hortense J. Spillers, PhD'74, professor of English at Vanderbilt University. I congratulate them and know you join me in celebrating this well-deserved honor.
Sincerely,
Ron
