Condemning the Events in Buffalo
May 16, 2022
Dear Members of the Brandeis Community,
Brandeis unequivocally condemns the racist and anti-Black violence that took place in Buffalo this past weekend. On behalf of the entire Brandeis community, I extend my profound condolences to all affected by the acts of violence, and my deepest sympathies are with the families and loved ones of the injured and killed. This terrible loss of life is a horrific reminder of the hate that continues to shape the experiences of so many across the nation.
In a time marked by rising violence against Asians and Asian Americans, Native Americans, Black and Latinx people, the LGBTQ+ community, and Jews, we must denounce in the strongest possible terms pernicious ideologies that underpin incidents like we witnessed in Buffalo. As a university community whose values include a reverence for justice, we all share an obligation to challenge and counter hate in all its forms.
We understand that this is a stressful period for many across the University as the year draws to a close. If you are in need of resources or support, please visit the Support at Brandeis website.
Sincerely,
Ron
