DeLeT Alumni Dinner and Professional Learning Community Meeting
Monday, April 12 2010
Dinner will be provided by the Mandel Center.

At our last meeting we began a discussion about Teacher Leadership and  the Teacher Study Groups that are happening in some of our schools.  For our next meeting we will discuss the article by Vivian Paley "Listening to What Children Say" and also get an introduction to something called a "NING" --a fairly new technology to help teachers collaborate.
Please RSVP to csrome@brandeis.edu if you plan to attend.

Monday, February 22, 2010 6:00-8:00pm
Dinner will be provided by the Mandel Center.

We will be discussing an article by Vivian Paley and beginning a conversation about Teacher Leadership--what does it mean, what does it look like and what examples of teacher leadership can we identify within the alumni group?   Kathy Kanigsberg  has agreed to talk briefly about the Professional Learning Communities she is involved in at SASSDS.  I welcome others to add to this dialogue.

Collaborative Learning in the Classroom: Awaken the Joy of Interpreting Texts
A Teacher Forum with Orit Kent, PhD

Sunday, January 31, 2010
1:30-5:00pm
Heller School -- Room G5, Brandeis University

Do you use paired learning of texts or havruta study in your classroom? Do you wonder what you can do to deepen these learning experiences? Are you curious about what can help make these paired learning experiences successful?

In this session, Dr. Orit Kent will speak about her award-winning work on havruta study, a collaborative learning practice for studying Jewish texts that is applicable to any text study. Come and experience these ideas through an interactive session that will include participating in havruta and viewing classroom videotapes of young adults and third graders learning in havruta. Participants will leave with ideas about maximizing these partner-learning practices in their own classrooms.

DeLeT Alumni Dinner and Professional Learning Community Meeting

Snapshots of Emerging Practice (formally known as Community Tea)
Thursday, January 7 4:30-6:00
For the second in a four part series of snapshots, cohort 8 is given the opportunity to publicly reflect on their learning. Reinforcing the belief that teaching should be open to investigation and inquiry with critical colleagues and not a private affair that happens behind closed classroom doors, the students are positioned as teacher leaders. For this second snapshot event, interns are asked to speak about one important learning and one big question they have from the fall semester. Faculty and fellow interns will comment, question, and offer support to the students.
