Funnyhouse of a Negro

By Adrienne Kennedy
Directed by David R. Gammons
Choreography by Susan Dibble
February 4-14, 2010
Laurie Theater
In 1964 Adrienne Kennedy’s first play established her as a revolutionary voice for the struggle of race and identity. Sarah is young, black and obsessed with whiteness and loses herself in her ‘funnyhouse’ with various versions of herself including Queen Victoria, the Duchess of Hapsburg and Jesus. This bold, phantasmagorical play about being a black woman in the 1960s made Adrienne Kennedy the most original voice of her generation. Directed by Eliot Norton Award winner David R. Gammons.
