Visions of an Ancient Dreamer
"Orestes" and "Iphigenia at Tauris"
By Euripides
Directed by Eric Hill and Aparna Sindhoor
April 25-28
Mainstage Theater, Spingold Theater Center
This production is the culmination of a year's collaboration between theater arts and classical studies in studying and translating the texts, training in Indian narrative dance with the Navarasa Dance Theater and, finally, performing the text.
Eric Hill, director of the project, was drawn to the way these two stories can be presented as twin visions of an ancient storyteller, a goddess perhaps, who tells us the story of the creation of the world that climaxes with the creation of the Furies. This production will bring together our graduate and undergraduate students in an opportunity to explore the most ancient form of theatrical performance, the Greek tragedy, in a way that delves into the connections of myths across cultures and time.
*Fog, haze and strobe lights will be used during this production.
