Pacific Rim Festival Brandeis

The collaborative venture of UC Santa Cruz Pacific Rim Festival, Brandeis University Department of Music, the Lydian String Quartet, Del Sol Quartet and Contemporary Music Ensemble Korea (CMEK): Chung Soo-neon (haegeum), Kim Sang-hun (ajaeng), Kim Jeong-seung (daegeum) and Yi Ji-young, director of CMEK (gayageum). The performance features will be new pieces written specifically for this occasion, each incorporating both Western and traditional Korean instruments. Participating composers for this project include 12 distinguished composers from different ethnic backgrounds, representing the musical languages of Cambodia, Japan, China, Taiwan (Yu-Hui Chang), the Philippines, Korea, Bosnia and the U.S (David Rakowski).

These concerts are part of the Lydian String Quartet series and the World Music Series.

San Francisco's Del Sol String Quartet, stands out as a group of pure invention, exploring new ways for a string quartet to interact with audiences, composers and other artists. Their riveting concert performances and critically acclaimed recordings have led one reviewer to describe the ensemble as "a San Francisco foursome steeped in imagination and bravery."
