Laurie Theater
Spingold Theater Center

Fifty brides flee their 50 grooms and seek refuge in a villa on the coast of Italy in this modern re-making of one of the Western world’s oldest plays, “The Danaids” by Aeschylus. In this villa on the Italian coast, the 50 grooms catch up with the brides, and while the brides and grooms wait for their wedding day, the characters raise issues of gender, politics, love and violence.

Theater Arts Productions

Welcome to the 2016-17 of the Department of Theater Arts, featuring collaborations among students, faculty, staff and guest artists.

This season’s programming asks questions of autonomy and personal control: When does government intervention invade personal liberty? When does protecting an individual’s religious freedom negate the freedom of a community? In a society that touts strict gender roles, how do individuals break free of those confines? Most importantly, how much do we control our own lives, and how much are we controlled by the world around us?

The Future of American Theater

Through progressive and challenging programming in a unique and dynamic setting, students, guest artists, faculty and staff work together to create cutting edge theater promoting multiculturalism alongside artistic achievement.

The Department of Theater Arts offers outstanding performances and innovative designs in the Spingold Theater Center.
