A message from Jehuda Reinharz
President of Brandeis University
Waltham, Massachusetts

Brandeis University extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt support to the entire Northern Illinois University community as it struggles with the aftermath of yesterday’s shootings on the school’s campus. We at Brandeis join with others across the United States and around the world in prayer and solemn reflection for the families and friends of the victims of this terrible ordeal. Our community hopes and prays for the recovery of the wounded, and expresses its support for and solidarity with the university administrators and law enforcement authorities charged with the difficult responsibility of trying to determine why and how this horrific tragedy occurred. Today we all feel profound sorrow over the loss of life and injury. We cannot imagine how the families and others directly affected by this must feel; we can only say that we stand with them in their grief and pain.
