Ambassador Welile Nhlapo will participate in Ruth First Memorial Lecture Series.
WALTHAM, Mass. -- South Africa's ambassador to the United States, Welile Nhlapo, will speak at Brandeis University on Monday, Feb. 11. The talk, which begins at 5:30 p.m. in the Lurias rooms of the Hassenfeld Conference Center, is entitled "South Africa's Time Has Come -- Achievements and Prospects." The event is free and open to the public.
The ambassador’s talk is part of the Ruth First Memorial Lecture Series, which is named in the memory of a heroic South African Jewish woman who was assassinated because she was one of the first whites to speak out strongly against apartheid. Professor of African and Afro-American Studies Wellington Nyangoni will speak about Ms. First's life prior to Ambassador Nhlapo's address.
A reception will follow the lecture.
