New rankings put Brandeis among top 25 national universities

Washington, D.C. — Brandeis University is among the top 25 national universities in the country, according to recently released rankings by the Center for College Affordability & Productivity (CCAP), an independent, not-for-profit center based in Washington, D.C.

In an article published in the May 19 edition of Forbes magazine — and currently posted on the Forbes.com Web site — the center ranked Brandeis at No. 21 among 127 national universities.

The top five schools on the list were, in order, Harvard University, Yale University, Princeton University, the University of Chicago and Brown University.

Rounding out the top 10 were Columbia University, California Institute of Technology, Stanford University, Northwestern University and Dartmouth College.

Emory University in Atlanta finished just ahead of Brandeis at No. 20.

The rankings were based on a number of criteria, including student evaluations of professors, graduation rates, percentage of students winning prestigious academic awards and travel grants and professional achievement of alumni.

In the Forbes article, CCAP director Richard Vedder said the center’s rankings are more useful than the ubiquitous U.S. News & World Report rankings because they are more heavily weighted toward results. U.S. News measures such criteria as faculty-student ratios, admissions selectivity, financial resources and alumni giving.

Brandeis is at No. 31 in the most recent U.S. News rankings.
