Student groups sponsoring Israeli Occupation Awareness Week
Brandeis Students for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace are sponsoring Israeli Occupation Awareness Week, Nov. 8-12, featuring daily events including:
Monday, Nov. 8
5:30-6:30 p.m.: Panel on women’s activism in the Palestinian territories, International Lounge
6:30-8 p.m.: Documentary about Palestinian hip-hop, Schwartz Auditorium
Tuesday, Nov. 9
11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: Palestinian farmer speaking on fighting Israeli settlements, International Lounge
6-8 p.m.: Discussion on boycotts, divestment and sanctions, Pearlman Lounge
Wednesday, Nov. 10
7-8:30 p.m.: Talk by Diana Buttu, legal advisor to the PLO, Pearlman Lounge
Thursday, Nov. 11
2-3:30 p.m. and 3:30-5 p.m., respectively: Two films, “To Shoot an Elephant” and “Jerusalem: East Story,” Shapiro Campus Center Multipurpose Room
6:30 p.m.: Talk “On Palestine” by MIT Professor Noam Chomsky, Sherman Hall, Hassenfeld Conference Center
Friday, Nov. 12
6 p.m.: Palestinian hip-hop group at Lobdell Hall, MIT. $10 admission.
Brandeis Students for Justice in Palestine describes itself as a student club whose primary purpose “is to give a voice to those who are interested in promoting the Palestinian perspective/narrative/point of view on campus, and to create an outlet and framework of support for students that wish to explore the conflict [and to] provide resources (speakers, movies, exhibits, etc.) that express the Palestinian narrative to campus.”
