Life, love and legacy of Georges Seurat playing through Sunday on Spingold Mainstage

Sixty five actors, singers and dancers perform Stephen Sondheim’s ground-breaking and inspiring musical about the life, love and legacy of painter Georges Seurat in a large, lavish production playing now through Sunday, Nov. 21 on the Spingold Mainstage.

Office of the Arts director Scott Edmiston directs the production, which includes a ten-piece orchestra under the leadership of musical director Todd C. Gordon.  Faculty members Nancy Armstrong (Theater Arts) and Pamela Wolfe (Music) are featured in the production.

 The University Chorus, under the direction of Professor or Music James D. Olesen, completes the company. Designers for the show include set by Carlos Aguilar (MFA’11), costume design by Charles Schoonmaker, (Faculty), lighting by Ben Williams (MFA’11), sound design by David Wilson (Faculty) and projection design by Erik Pearson.

Several additional events are planned around the production:

  •         Thursday, November 18 at 7:15 p.m.: Professor of Art History and Fine Arts Department Chair Nancy Scott and scenic designer Carlos Aguilar offer a pre-show talk about the life and work of painter Georges Seurat in the Dreitzer Gallery in the Spingold Theater Center.
  •         Saturday, November 20 at 1 p.m.: Tour and gallery talk at the Rose Art Museum featuring works in the current ‘Regarding Painting’ exhibit by curator and Director of Academic Programs for the Rose, Dabney Hailey.
  •         Saturday, November 20 at 4 p.m.: Post-show discussion with director Scott Edmiston, immediately following the 2pm performance.

Tickets for ‘Sunday in the Park with George’ are $18-$20 and are available through Brandeis Tickets at www.brandeis.edu/tickets or by calling 781/736-3400.
