Schiffman named to Yeshiva U. post

Lawrence H. Schiffman, who earned his B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Brandeis, has been named vice provost for undergraduate education at Yeshiva University. A specialist in the Dead Sea Scrolls, Judaism in Late Antiquity, the history of Jewish law and Talmudic literature, he moves to Yeshiva from New York University, where he was a professor and chair of the Department of Hebrew and Judaic Studies. Schiffman has previously served as president of the Association of Jewish Studies and has taught at Yale University, Ben Gurion University, Johns Hopkins University and the Russian State University for the Humanities in Moscow.
