Our Staff

Robert Y. Berlin, Ph.D., Senior Director

Dr. Berlin received his doctorate from the University of Chicago and completed his post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School. He has worked at Brandeis for over twenty-five years, having served as director of the training program and currently as Director of the Counseling Center.

Roberta Caplan, Ph.D.

Dr. Caplan is the director of our training program. She graduated from the University of Chicago and the University of Michigan, and completed her post-doctoral training at the University of Rochester. Her professional interests are in the working alliance in psychotherapy and supervision, the effect of substance abuse on the family, and the impact of divorce and/or siblings with problems.

Michael Donahue, Ed.D.

Dr. Donahue graduated from Holy Cross College and Boston University. His professional interests concern psychology in law enforcement as related to job stress and personnel selection. He has been at Brandeis as a staff member since 1977.

Catherine Dooley, M.S.

Ms. Dooley completed her master's level graduate training at SUNY Buffalo. She has received further training at the doctoral level at Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. She has co-directed the Eating Disorder Program on the Cognitive Behavior Therapy Unit at McLean Hospital, and she has been a trainer and program developer for "The Women in Prison Project" at Wellesley College's Stone Center. Current affiliations include her role as a faculty member at the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute at Wellesley's Stone Center.

Ronald Evans, Ed.D.

Dr. Evans graduated from Ashland College, Kent State University and Boston University. He is currently an assistant professor at Bentley College. His professional interests are in the areas of interracial relations, diversity in the workplace, stress management, time management, self-esteem, career development and family issues.

Lois Finstein, Department Administrator

Mrs. Finstein graduated from Brandeis University and has been a valued staff member of the Psychological Counseling Center team since 1989

Suzanne Harmon, Ed.D.

Dr. Harmon graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara and Boston University. She is past Director of the Pine Manor College Counseling Center and is currently a Clinical Instructor of Psychiatry at Harvard University Medical School. Her professional interests are in graduate student issues, writing and dissertation blocks, creativity and work inhibition. Her work also includes studies in psychospiritual and cross-cultural counseling. She has traveled in Asia and has a particular interest in working with Asian students studying in this country.

Jennifer Harris, M.D.

Dr. Harris graduated from Harvard University and the University of California, San Francisco Medical School. She trained at Cambridge Hospital in both Adult and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. She is an Instructor at Harvard Medical School, teaches and supervises at Cambridge Hospital, and has a small private practice. Her professional interests include working with children and their parents, developmental psychiatry, the importance of psychotherapy, and the appropriate use of medications.

Karen Patrick Psy.D.

Dr. Patrick has been affiliated with the PCC for the past thirteen years and currently serves as the Clinical Coordinator for Graduate Student Services.  She received her doctorate from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology.  She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at Westwood Lodge Hospital specializing in the clinical treatment of affective disorders, trauma, and eating disorders.  Dr. Patrick also maintains a private practice and her clinical interests include GLBT issues, the processes of acculturation and acclimation, as well as developmental issues across the lifespan.

Neil B. Redlener, M.D.

Dr. Redlener is a graduate of University of Louvain (Belgium) and Univ. of Miami Medical Schools and did his psychiatric training at Tufts New England Medical Center. He has had a variety of administrative and clinical positions and teaching experience in the Boston area, including Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston University, and Tufts New England Medical Center. He is an experienced psychotherapist and psychopharmacologist with interest and broad experience in young adults, family, couples, and group treatment.

Judy Sanditen, Psy.D.

Dr. Sanditen graduated from Tufts University with an undergraduate degree in Occupational Therapy.  After working in a state psychiatric hospital for children, she went on for her master's in Counseling and Consulting Psychology from Harvard University and for her doctorate from the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology.  In addition to the Brandeis Psychological Counseling, she has a small private practice concentrating on couples relationships and building constructive ways of communicating, young adults, families, groups, and psychoanalytic treatment.

Bonnie Smolen, Ed.D.

Dr. Smolen received her doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. She has held faculty appointments there as well as at Antioch/New England and Lesley College Graduate School. Her professional interests include sexual harassment, adult development, and interdisciplinary research in psychoanalysis and neuroscience.

Joanne Walker, Psy.D.

Dr. Walker graduated from Tufts University and the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology. She completed her post-doctoral fellowship at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Her clinical interests include the acculturation process of international students living in America and her research focuses on the negative consequences of compulsive technology use.

David Whelan, Psy.D.

Dr. Whelan received his doctorate from George Washington University and completed postdoctoral training at the Cambridge Health Alliance & Harvard Medical School, where he serves as a clinical instructor in the Department of Psychiatry.  At Brandeis, he both sees students in ongoing counseling and coordinates the center's clinical intake system.  Outside Brandeis, he also maintains a private practice, focusing on child, adolescent, and family therapy.

Katherine Schrag Wangh, LICSW

Ms. Wangh graduated from New York University, the Banks Street College of Education and Boston College School of Social Work. She has a Diploma in Child Psychoanalysis from the Anna Freud Center in London, England. Her past affiliations include Judge Baker Child Guidance Center, McLean Hospital, and Wellesley College Counseling Center. Her professional interests and expertise are in child and adolescent development and psychotherapy, object relations theory and women's issues, and parent guidance regarding child development issues with a focus on early intervention.
