Xinyi Du '17
European Cultural Studies/Comparative Literature and Culture

Xinyi DuAn international student from Beijing, China, I am a senior double majoring in ECS and Comparative Literature. I also double minor in German Studies and History of Ideas. I always have had a passion for the humanities, especially how the great ideas from great minds in human history influence and shape our values today. Through the interdisciplinary study of ECS, I have been getting more insight into the dynamics of different cultures and values. By contemplating milestones in human history, I have a broader horizon to understand how people with different cultural backgrounds appreciate similar beliefs and ideas. Although ways of expression might vary, the pursuit for truth, goodness and beauty of this world stays the same across cultures.

As a Chinese peer tutor, I not only help students practice oral Mandarin but also try to serve as a bridge between Western and Eastern cultures. In addition to volunteering at the Admissions Office as a chatter, I am a soprano in the University Chorus. I am very passionate about singing and, other than taking voice lessons, I used to be a member of the Early Music Ensemble, Chamber Choir and an a capella group, too. I am a big fan of trap music and if you know a good trap song, let me know!
