Class of 2020 Mini Celebrations and In-Person Commencement

The Brandeis community is incredibly proud of the Class of 2020! While the coronavirus pandemic changed our original plans for Commencement, we are still recognizing the significant achievements of this year’s graduates with virtual “Mini Celebrations” this spring, followed by an in-person ceremony next year.

Launch: On May 24, graduates received a message from President Ron Liebowitz that included links to celebratory greetings and the official conferral of degrees, as well as an alumni toast to the Class of 2020. Graduates will receive their diplomas by mail in June.

Mini Celebrations: These virtual celebrations, organized by major and school, took place in late May and early June. The Mini Celebrations were online opportunities for departments to recognize the hard work of their graduates in view of family and friends.

In-Person Commencement: In response to the clear desire expressed by this year’s graduates for an on-campus ceremony, Brandeis will also hold an in-person Commencement in 2021 to honor the Class of 2020. Details and dates for this celebration are still to be determined, but we will update the Commencement website and communicate with graduates as information becomes available. The in-person event will recognize each graduate, feature remarks from the selected undergraduate and graduate speakers, recognize this year’s Honorary Degree Recipients, and provide the Class of 2020 with the fun and meaningful cap and gown experience associated with graduation each year.

As Alumni: With over 55,000 members worldwide, the Brandeis Alumni Association is a vibrant community that offers lifelong opportunities for alumni to stay connected to Brandeis and each other. The Alumni Association is eager to welcome its newest members! The Class of 2020 should keep an eye out for more information from the Alumni Association in the coming months and can also check out the alumni Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter and in the meantime.
