The Marshall Scholarship
The Marshall Scholarship Program offers graduate school scholarships for US students in the UK in any field of study. Scholarships are available for one or two years of study. The scholarship strengthens US-UK relations on a personal and national level and students receive the opportunity to have direct engagement with the top British academic programs. Marshall Scholars are chosen for their leadership and ambassadorial potential, as well as academic ability.

Eligibility
- US citizen
- Have your bachelor degree by the time the scholarship program starts
- Minimum 3.7 GPA
- Have not yet studied or hold degree-equivalent qualifications from a British University or GCSE, or taken A Levels at a school in the UK
Application Timeline
- Priority Intent-to-Apply Deadline: May 31, 2024
- Regular Intent-to-Apply Deadline: July 15, 2024
- Campus Deadline: August 15, 2024
- National Deadline: TBD (late September 2024)
Award
- The Marshall Scholarship varies in value depending on the program and place of residence, but it tends to average around £38,000 a year.
- The scholarship covers tuition fees, books, and travel to and from the UK.
- The scholarship also covers the cost of living expenses with a £1,160 per month stipend for scholars studying outside of London and £1,369 for those studying in London.

- Create an online application form through the Marshall website and answer the following essay prompts.
- Write a Post Scholarship Plan (150 words) that describes your immediate plans after completing the Marshall Scholarship and why attaining your degree in the UK would enhance these plans. You should also indicate how you would develop ongoing connections with the UK, either through your UK university or other UK contacts.
- Write a Personal Statement (750 words) that describes your intellectual development and other interests and pursuits.
- Write a Proposed Academic Program (500 words) that describes your proposed academic program, giving reasons for your choice of course and preferred university. If you are applying for a research degree, you should give an outline proposal of the research you wish to undertake and who you would like to work with.
- Write about your Leadership Potential (500 words) by describing a situation in which you were working with a group of people and recognized and responded to a need for leadership. The objective is to help the committee understand your leadership conviction and drive, style and potential rather than provide a list of achievements.
- Write about your Ambassador Potential (500 words) by explaining why you want to undertake your studies in the UK, and in what particular ways do you think you will benefit personally and professionally from the experience. You should discuss how work in your chosen field of study can enhance the USA-UK relationship. You should further explain how you might contribute to the improvement of USA-UK relations in your field of study and following the scholarship.
- Send your official academic transcripts.
