Brandeis International Business School

The Global Gala is one of the most colorful and exciting events at Brandeis.

This annual cultural celebration is an opportunity for Brandeis International Business School students to proudly showcase the music, dance and fashion of their home countries — all while pouring their hearts into a memorable performance.

As a student from India, one of the reasons I chose the International Business School was my desire to experience a variety of new cultures and traditions. So when the opportunity arose to participate in the Global Gala, I draped my favorite saree and headed straight for the stage!

Kaleidoscope of culture

In a word, the fashion on display at the Global Gala is radiant.

Picture a room full of people with clothing so unique — some in bright colors, others more calm, some flowy and others blingy. The atmosphere is immaculate. And I will always remember this as the event where I went all out!

I walked the runway alongside my friend, Rushit, who rocked a bright red kurta representing his culture from northern India. I wore a black saree with red and gleaming gold trim, showing off my south Indian heritage.

I also performed a choreographed dance with a group of classmates. India is a country with more than 2,000 ethnic groups, each of them unique and beautiful. We were determined to exhibit this diversity in our routine, selecting songs in different languages. It took lots of practice, but the applause from the audience made it all worth it!

A night to remember

While the stage performances were a celebration all their own, the real fun began after the routines were complete and everyone hit the dance floor.

Spinning away to beats from all around the world, learning each other’s dance moves, refueling with delicious food and beverages with an international flare — the Global Gala is truly a night where different cultures come together for one big party.

I cannot thank the International Business School enough for organizing this event, standing true to our community’s shared goal of encouraging diversity and inclusion. It was one of the most memorable nights of my life in the United States.
