The Writing Center will close for face-to-face consultations during the week of March 16th. We will re-open for online consultations beginning Thursday, March 26th.

These consultations will take place on the Zoom videoconference platform. See full instructions for setting up an online appointment (Brandeis accounts only).

What We Do

The Writing Center offers free writing tutorial services to the Brandeis community. Our staff of graduate student consultants can help you with almost any writing need, including:

  • brainstorming
  • outlining
  • essays
  • short assignments
  • personal statements
  • cover letters

What About Proofreading?

The Writing Center believes that the most effective way to help you proofread is to teach you to do it yourself. Rather than find mistakes for you, we will teach you how to spot common errors and help you to develop useful self-correcting strategies. Our ultimate goal is to help demystify the writing process and aid you in becoming better and more confident writers.

Online appointments are an hour long and take place via Zoom and over Google Docs. See further details (Brandeis accounts only).

In each session, you will receive oral and written feedback from an experienced and supportive graduate student consultant. Each session aims to balance macro-level writing issues (e.g., structure, scope, organization, style) with micro-level concerns (e.g., punctuation, semantics, syntax, vocabulary).

Workshops for the remainder of the 2019-20 Academic Year will be held over Zoom.
