What We Do

The Writing Center offers free writing tutorial services to all Brandeis University undergraduate and graduate students. Our staff of graduate student consultants can help you with:

  • brainstorming
  • outlining
  • essays
  • short assignments
  • personal statements
  • English language assistance
  • job applications
  • and virtually any writing need!

Each writing consultation lasts one hour.

These sessions are content-focused for students working on a range of projects from any discipline! We can help you brainstorm and focus topics, build stronger arguments, polish your thesis statement, use MLA citations correctly, develop better drafting and editing strategies, and so much more!

Within each session, students will receive oral and written feedback from an experienced and supportive graduate student tutor. Each session aims to balance macro-level writing issues (e.g., structure, scope, organization) with micro-level concerns (e.g., grammar, punctuation, tense usage).

We are not a proofreading service -- rather, we show students how to spot common errors and help them develop useful self-correcting strategies. Our ultimate goal is to help demystify the writing process and aid students in becoming better and more confident writers!

Additional services

In addition to one-on-one sessions with our consultants, the Writing Center also offers group workshops on various writing-related topics.
