How Do I Recycle?

Prepare Materials

Recycling is easy at Brandeis. We collect most common materials.

  • Please rinse off food and empty liquids from containers.
  • Don’t worry about spiral binders or labels on paper.
  • Cardboard boxes should be flattened at placed by the larger bins.

Place in Personal Bin

Every office and room should have a small personal recycling bin. If your bin is missing, please email recycling@brandeis.edu.

Empty Personal Bin: All Together Now!Toters

It is your responsibility to empty your personal bin. Find your nearest “Recycling Collection Spot," where there are slim blue recycling bins or large blue and green wheeled toters. If you need extra public bins please please email recycling@brandeis.edu.

All common recyclable materials can be placed in these bins together- regardless of the type of lid on the bin.  Brandeis adopted this collection method in Fall 2008. This type of recycling collection is called "Single Stream Recycling" and has been shown to increase recycling rates. The sorting of different types of recycling is handled at the recycling facility. However, trash is NOT sorted from recycling- trash that goes into recycling containers will contaminate the bin. This may require custodial staff to throw away the whole bin of recycling.

Please do not put food or liquids in any recycling bins. If you notice frequent trash contamination in recycling bins or if you have any other  questions, please email recycling@brandeis.edu.

Thank you for helping make Brandeis a sustainable campus.
