Brandeis Counseling Center Video Transcript

The Brandeis Counseling Center, or the BCC, is located in the Mailman Building, at the end of the South Street footbridge opposite Gosman Athletic Center.

Welcome to the Brandeis Counseling Center. The BCC serves undergraduates and graduate students. About 15% of Brandeis students visit the BCC- so come on down! We are in good company.

The BCC is open Monday through Friday, 9 through 5. If you need care immediately, but haven’t scheduled an appointment, come to Urgent Care hours, which take place weekdays at 11 am and 3 pm.

The BCC staff is made up of a diverse group of individuals. They consist of 25 licensed therapists and 3 psychiatrists. Collectively, the staff provides care in Spanish, Hebrew, French, Mandarin, and Cantonese.

To get started at the BCC, call or stop by Reception. You will schedule an initial assessment (is this the correct name?), where one of the BCC staff members will talk with you about your needs and the appropriate services the BCC can provide. Then, the BCC will match you with a therapist or group that can best help you.

When it is time for your appointment at the BCC, check in at reception with Lois. Hi, I’m here for my appointment.

If during the initial assessment, you and the BCC therapist determine that attending a group session will help you the most, you will meet in here. The BCC offers a myriad of groups, including: Mindfulness coping strategies, Understanding your relationships to substances, Art therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Anxiety, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Managing a Chronic Illness, Bereavement Group, LGBTQ group, Survivors of sexual assault groups, Eating Disorder Support, Adjusting to Western Culture, and Social Anxiety Groups.

I work with students who are interested in talking about a wide variety of topics. From choosing a major, identity questions, homesickness, stress and managing relationships, to coping with depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, eating disorders, chronic mental illness, and trauma from a range of events.

BCC staff are committed to providing safe, sensitive, and confidential support to Brandeis students.

Even if you have never scheduled an appointment, all Brandeis students are welcome to relaxing/de-stressing activities in the reception area: including use of the massage chair, coloring, and watching the fireplace.
