I just released my seventh jazz album, “Secrets from the Jazz Ghetto” (http://georgekahn.com). The release kicked off with a party in Hollywood at which I performed with my quintet. Special guest Justo Almario dropped in to play sax and flute on a few tunes.

California Lawyer magazine named Michael Rubin a 2010 California Lawyer of the Year (CLAY) for winning a death row inmate’s freedom after a quarter century of litigation. One of only 15 lawyers to have received two CLAY awards, he was also recognized in 2003 for his work representing Chinese sweatshop workers on the island of Saipan.

Drew Altman, president and chief executive of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, was profiled in a recent article in the Los Angeles Times. The story said he had “transformed a sleepy grant maker into a major nonpartisan health care information source for journalists, politicians and the public.”

Judith (Siegel) and Alan Leichtner of Chestnut Hill, Mass., are grandparents:  Abigail Shira Deutsch, the daughter of Amy (Leichtner) ’01 and Daniel Deutsch, was born on June 29, 2009.
