As part of a broader approach to teacher preparation, DeLeT views itself as a three pronged continuum, responsible for quality teacher preparation, new teacher induction and support, and continuing professional development. This view provides outstanding opportunities for alumni to have an ongoing relationship with DeLeT and the Mandel Center.
This year, one third of the 15 current teacher mentors at our partner schools were DeLeT interns themselves
The inaugural DeLeT alumni conference was held in February of 2009. The conference theme was MeHazon L'Metziut-From Vision to Reality: Teacher Leaders Integrating Vision into Practice. The Laura and Gary Lauder Foundation, in consultation with DeLeT's academic leadership, provided this opportunity for alumni to come together as a professional learning community, to share knowledge and experiences and to reinforce the vision of DeLeT alumni as teacher leaders and agents of positive change in the day school world.
Also, in July of 2009, as the first of its kind, the Alumni Summer Institute welcomed five local alumni for a week-long session to begin work on individual projects. Alumni supported each other as they began work on projects related to teacher development that will continue on throughout the academic year.
Cindy Shulak-Rome, a current Field Instructor, has just taken on the role of DeLeT Alumni Coordinator and in conjunction with our alumni is planning to hold many alumni events this year, including monthly meetings and a "Teachers Teaching Teachers" conference this winter.
