Controlled Substances

Welcome to the website for the Controlled Substances Office at Brandeis University. The Controlled Substances Office is located within the Office of Research Administration and works closely with the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Office.

This website has been designed to provide investigators at Brandeis with knowledge and information that will help them follow applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations as well as University policies with regard to the use of Controlled Substances in research.

Controlled Substances are drugs, chemicals, and agents that are defined and regulated by the state and federal government. They are divided in Schedules I-VI. A list of Controlled Substances on Schedules I-V is available here. Additionally, in Massachusetts, all medications which require a prescription and do not fall into Schedules I-V are Schedule VI and are considered controlled substances.
