Welcome to Brandeis
I want to offer you my personal welcome to Brandeis University.
This is a unique institution and our students, faculty, staff and alumni all share in the belief that this is a special place. Brandeis is a “global liberal arts university,” offering our students the intimacy and accessibility of a small liberal arts college wrapped within the breadth of a world-class research university. We boast of low student-to-faculty ratios and senior faculty who are committed to teaching undergraduates and involving them in meaningful, cutting-edge research.
Brandeis is one of the youngest highly acclaimed private research universities in the country, as well as the only nonsectarian college or university in the United States with deep Jewish roots. We stress an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge and the solution of real life problems – from our new Mandel Center for the Humanities and Shapiro Science Center to the Heller School for Social Policy and Management and the Brandeis International Business School.
This combination creates a rich learning environment.
Today, as always, the campus community remains devoted to the concept of social justice, a legacy we inherited from the namesake of this university, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis, who stood for the rights of individuals.
As I said when I was selected as the eighth president of Brandeis, I came to this university because I can be successful being who I am. So can you. I invite you to learn more about Brandeis: the stellar faculty, the richness of our student body, the depth of our academic offerings, and the myriad opportunities for real leadership positions, deep friendships and a host of sports, social and cultural activities.
All of it comes with a perspective that will take you from Brandeis around the globe and back. Please spend the time to learn more. We are excited to share our story with you.
