2017-2018 Undergraduate Departmental Representatives

Lily Elderkin

Lily Elderkin is a senior, originally from the northwest suburbs of Chicago. She is double majoring in Sociology and Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, with a minor in Social Justice and Social Policy. She is also a coordinator for Waltham Group's Hunger and Homelessness, as well as a peer counselor for Brandeis's Student Sexuality Information Services. She works as a teaching assistant at Lemberg Children's Center. She has worked extensively with homeless and low-income individuals in the Boston and Chicago areas. She is particularly interested in sexuality education as an avenue for justice across multiple spectrums of identity, and hopes to one day be able to provide sexuality education curricula for low-income urban schools. She loves the SJSP program because of its uniqueness and the ability to truly shape it to her own interests. She would love to talk more by email!

Rachel Lederer

Rachel is a junior from Massachusetts who is (tentatively) majoring in Sociology and Computer Science and is definitely minoring in SJSP. She was drawn to Brandeis because of its emphasis on interdisciplinary work and social justice and has really appreciated all the opportunities it has given her to engage with the Waltham community. She volunteers with the General Tutoring and Prospect Hill Kids’ Club programs in the Waltham Group, as well as the English Language Learning Initiative. She is a member of Students for Environmental Action and is on the e-board of STAND, a student-led movement that aims to help prevent genocide and mass atrocities worldwide. She has also been involved with helping to run a housing advocacy clinic at WATCH, a non-profit community development corporation in Waltham, and interned there during the summer of 2016. She is more to happy to answer questions about SJSP or anything else!
