Emergency Contraception
Emergency contraception (E.C.) can be taken to help prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse. It can be taken up to 120 hours (5 days) after the act of intercourse. It is most effective when taken within three days.
E.C. is available at the Health Center during open Health Center hours for $20 to female undergraduates and graduate students. Payment is due at the time of service by cash, credit/debit card or check. We are not a retail pharmacy and can only dispense medication to Brandeis students for their own use. For this reason we are not able to provide emergency contraception for non-Brandeis students or male students. If you need E.C. immediately or are not a Brandeis student E.C. can be purchased at local pharmacies. Please call (781) 736-3677 with any questions.

Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI),Gynecological, and Testicular Exams
If you are sexually active, we recommend the use of condoms and mutual monogomy to reduce the spread of STI's. Condoms are available for free from a jar in our waiting room. If you:

- are having unusual genital discharge, odor, or itching,
- notice a genital rash, skin growths, or ulcers,
- are experiencing pelvic pain, pain or bleeding with intercourse, or
- have other concerns
- Annual gynecological exams and periodic pap screenings for cervical cancer starting at age 21.
- Annual screening for chlamydia (a bacterial STI) is recommended for sexually active women under the age of 25. This can occur at an annual gyn exam, with a pap smear, or with a urine test.
- Gonorrhea, syphilis, and HIV screening for those with identified risks.
- Men should know how to perform a testicular exam and have any concerns assessed by their medical providers.
- Gardasil vaccine is recommended for both women and men up to age 26 to protect against high risk Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) variants associated with cervical, throat, and anal cancers as well as HPV variants most commonly associated with genital warts. This vaccine can be administered at the health center for a supply fee. You will be given documentation which you can able to submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement as applicable.
