Carl J. Shapiro
Carl J. Shapiro is the founder, former president and chairman of the board of the Kay Windsor, Inc., one of the largest women's apparel companies in the country.
In 1961, he established the Carl and Ruth Shapiro Family Foundation, which has distributed millions of dollars to support countless community-based nonprofits and organizations.
Shapiro and his late wife, Ruth, gave more than $80 million to Brandeis. Their generosity supported the construction of the Shapiro Campus Center, the Shapiro Science Center and the Shapiro Admissions Center.
Shapiro is also a major benefactor of Harvard Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Wellesley College, Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, the Norton Museum of Art, and the Palm Beach Opera, among other institutions.
