Language Empowering Action Project (LEAP)
The LEAP Project is a community service group which recognizes the power of language and how it can change people's lives. We provide one to one English tutoring to adults in the Waltham community. Our tutors are paired with an English learner, and meet with them once per week for two hours to help them learn the English language. In addition to English classes, tutors teach learners about American culture and services provided in the community. LEAP volunteers also have the opportunity to work as translators at a local Housing Clinic (WATCH).
This opportunity is open to all students. You do not need to be fluent in another language to volunteer.
Population Served: Waltham residents
Community Partners: Waltham Family School, Jewish Family and Children’s Services (JF&CS) and English At Large
How to Participate: Non-profits looking to recruit volunteers and Brandeis students looking to volunteer, e-mail the program coordinators at firstname.lastname@example.org
