Continue to advocate to senior administration for payment of orientation leaders.
Host focus groups with current students to determine why students feel encouraged or discouraged from applying to be an orientation leader.
Both August and January orientation leaders will receive payment annually. Money will be reserved by the university or put into the departmental budget and earmarked for orientation leader payment only.
Information from the focus groups will be shared with the supervisors of the Department of Orientation.
To allow for more crossover and diversity among orientation leaders, include all pre-orientation OLs (Myra Kraft Transitional Year Program, Student Support Services Program, International Students and Scholars Office, etc.) in orientation leader training and also participate as OLs in New Student Orientation. Orientation leaders training will need to begin earlier so that the pre-orientation groups can have their own time for training as well.*
Offering appropriate payment to orientation leaders will increase the diversity of students who can apply.**
The Orientation Core Committee will communicate and/or attend a diverse variety of clubs and organizational events to promote the Orientation leader position and awareness of the application.
Create an intentional training program for student leaders.
Track events attended by the Orientation Core Committee.
Staff will do its best to invite a diverse group of student leaders and professional staff and faculty from across the university to participate in Orientation events and programs.
Staff will keep track of who presents during Orientation (student leaders and staff).
Staff will have meetings with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion staff to be informed on departmental and university initiatives and make sure they are supported and presented in Orientation programming.
Diversity, equity and inclusion programming will continue to be part of the Orientation programs.
There will be diversity, equity and inclusion training for all orientation leaders.
