Anti-Racism Plan Framework
Broaden the input and community involvement in rights and responsibilities policy review to gain additional information/perspectives.
Tasks

Engage faculty, staff and student community members in rights and responsibilities review process.

Provide opportunities to submit feedback through conversation (focus groups) as well as through electronic submissions, including anonymous submissions.

Create opportunity for community members to review and comment on policy edits prior to their final approval process.

Enhance communication with community regarding rights and responsibilities policy review timeline.

Identify opportunities to engage students in feedback process once student completes conduct process.

Assessment of focus groups will provide opportunity for feedback regarding perceived community voice and diversity, equity and inclusion components.

Community participation numbers in review submissions and focus groups and individual meetings.
Integrate diversity, equity and inclusion work and discussions into hearing officer and board member training.

Student Rights and Community Standards will work with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion on enhancing staff member training on implicit bias and anti-racism.

Student Rights and Community Standards will increase the number conversations and trainings that currently take place with board members around the issues of implicit bias and anti-racism.

Student Rights and Community Standards will increase the number of conversations and trainings for all hearing officers.

Assessment of trainings will gauge understanding of key concepts and perceptions of diversity, equity and inclusion in Student Rights and Community Standards processes.
Highlight the importance of transparency to progress candid conversations and continually revise processes.
Tasks

Student Rights and Community Standards will consistently provide overview conduct data to the broader Brandeis community, including self-identified race and ethnicity data, as it pertains to violation types and numbers.

SRCS will work with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to review conduct data as it relates to race/ethnicity.

SRCS will work with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to review COVID-related data as it relates to race/ethnicity.

SRCS will work with Information Technology Services to create a section on the SRCS website dedicated to annual conduct data, accessible to the broader campus community.

SRCS will schedule opportunities to review and provide context to data posted.

Additional information/data gathering will take place as necessary if/when trends are noted.

Based on information/trends, SRCS will work with the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, other campus departments and community members to develop a plan to adjust as necessary moving forward.
Collaborate with campus partners on bringing practices that underscore community engagement, heighten sense of belonging, provide opportunity to engage in complex dialogues and are designed to not reinforce oppressive norms.

Student Rights and Community Standards will assist in bringing transformative justice practices to Brandeis.

SSRCS has worked with a graduate student for the past two years to complete benchmarking with institutions of higher education and craft on-campus relationships with those motivated to move this effort forward.

SRCS staff are members of a transformative justice leadership team in ongoing discussion for a pilot program.

SRCS staff will actively engage in training and development of staff around transformative justice.

SRCS staff will help support pilot program as they navigate new processes on campus.

SRCS staff will assist in assessment of pilot program once completed.

Pilot program assessment will include assessment on perceptions of racial diversity and bias as well as additional components related to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Transformative justice information shared would highlight its roots being an opportunity to address systemic concerns and repair harms caused.
