• The Language, Culture and Justice Hub, based at the Ethics Center, hosts the online learning exchange "Rights, Rules and Rhetoric" Nov. 17 and 18.

• At "Voting and Democracy in 2020 and Beyond," Boston City Councilor Lydia Edwards; Massachusetts state Sen. Becca Rausch ’01; former Massachusetts state Rep. Jay Kaufman ’68, MA’73; and John Shattuck, professor at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy and senior fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, discuss voter engagement, access and suppression.

• ENACT: The Educational Network for Active Civic Transformation works with two Brandeis computer science students to design and build a new resource-sharing platform for faculty, students and alumni.

• Creativity, the Arts and Social Transformation students shared their capstone projects in a celebratory exhibition as part of the multiday Create@Brandeis: Living Room Fest sponsored by the Arts Engagement team of the Division of Creative Arts.

• Black Lives Matter: The center’s weekly newsletter features video from the keynotes and interviews of Gittler Prize recipients and Richman Fellows from their visits to Brandeis in which these scholars and public figures offer significant reflections on critical racial and societal challenges.

• "A Focus on Labor and State Policy" — This fall, ENACT: The Educational Network for Active Civic Transformation Launched the ENACT Labor Network (ELN) — a collaboration between ENACT and the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. Learn more about the ELN here.

• "Dispatches from Nowhere Near the Promised Land: How a Peacebuilder Unlearned his Trade" — John Paul Lederach, the 2019 winner of the Joseph B. and Toby Gittler Prize, visits campus and explains to students and guests about how and why he became a peacemaker, what have been his greatest challenges and accomplishments and failures, and why and how he may be optimistic (or otherwise) about the possible winding down of war.

• Upcoming Events: Voting and Democracy in 2020 and Beyond, Young Political Leadership: An ENACT Forum, and "Achieving an Inclusive Democracy: What it Means for Every Voice to Count" — a lecture by Richman Distinguished Fellow Rebecca Cokley.

• Second Annual ENACT Forum on Women's Political Engagement — Massachusetts State Senators Diana DiZoglio and Cindy Friedman and Kentucky State Representative Attica Scott discuss their careers in politics and political advocacy in conversation with the students from ENACT courses around the United States.

• "Snapshots: Portraits of a World in Transition" — Anna Deavere Smith, the 2019 winner of the Richman Fellowship, visits campus and explains the interviews she carried out across the country to showcase the diverse opinions on controversial issues. Watch her presentation here.

• Just Published: "Let's Make a Better World: Stories and Songs by Jane Sapp," by Jane Wilburn Sapp with Cynthia Cohen, highlights social transformation and its roots in African-American musical traditions.

• "Honoring the Matriarch by Promoting Dialogue and Learning" — Ammad Bahalim ’04 and his family support dialogue and learning about Islam and Islamophobia.
