Status in Combined Bachelor/Masters Programs
5-year Bachelor/Master Programs
In programs which combine a bachelor degree with a masters program that is normally two years in length students are considered to be undergraduates until the bachelor degree has been conferred. The following year they matriculate into the graduate program and are considered to be graduate students. Students in a 5-year bachelor/master programs are subject to undergraduate policies while still an undergraduate and graduate policies while a graduate student. These students are not normally eligible to take a leave between their bachelor and graduate years as this would be a deferral of their program. A leave of absence for their graduate program is only granted between the terms that they are matriculated as a graduate student.
4-year Bachelor/Masters Programs
In programs which combine a bachelor degree with a masters program that is normally one year in length students are considered to be undergraduates throughout the program. The degrees must be awarded simultaneously. After eight semesters, if students have not completed the masters requirements, but have completed bachelor degree requirements, the bachelor degree will be awarded and the master program will be discontinued. Such students will not be able to complete the masters program.
