Film Screening: "Love with Obstacles"

Program September 30, 2020 - October 4, 2020
Virtual Program

Join us for the virtual premiere of Dora García’s newly commissioned film, Love with Obstacles, which weaves together García’s ongoing research on the life of Alexandra Kollantai with her long-held interests in the history of ideas and political potential of marginal positions.

Love with Obstacles focuses on the Marxist feminist, October revolutionary, political exile, and diplomat Alexandra Kollontai (St. Petersburg, 1872–Moscow, 1952). The film dives into preserving her legacy through documents held in Moscow’s archives and her vision of the future of a socialist feminist revolution.  The film screening will be available through the Brandeis-hosted Ensemble Video platform and is viewable Friday, September 30th - Sunday, October 4th.

This virtual film screening is free and open to the public but requires registration.

This program is organized in conjunction with the exhibition Dora García: Love with Obstacles. While our physical galleries are currently open to the campus community only, the exhibition can be virtually explored through online materials and installation images.

Auguste Orts produced the film Love with Obstacles with support from Flanders Audiovisual Fund, Kulturrådet Oslo, KUF grant, KHiO Oslo National Academy of the Arts, Garage Field Research, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow, On & For Production and Distribution, Rose Art Museum.
