Open Workshop: Violin Concerto

Headshots of Eric Chasalow and Miranda Cuckson
Program

December 15, 2021, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Lois Foster Wing

Join critically acclaimed musician and composer Eric Chasalow and violinist/violist Miranda Cuckson for an open workshop at the Rose Art Museum. The workshop—exploring the intersections and interstices between sound art and music—will occur in the Rose's Lois Foster Wing. This performance is dedicated to the late, experimental composer and Brandeis alumnus, Alvin Lucier.

A pioneer in fusing distinct musical styles and mediums, Chasalow's collaborative artistic practice investigates how the conception of a piece of music changes when created for venues and audiences that engage the flow of time and space differently.

Visitors to the Rose are invited to listen and observe as Chasalow and Cuckson actively examine and transform music written for the violin through electronic interventions into sounds for the art gallery, experienced in ways that diverge from the concert hall.

Please note, this workshop is not a seated performance and will be recorded. Visitors are welcome and encouraged to enjoy this workshop as they experience the art in the museum's Lois Foster Wing. Separate registration is not required; however, all museum guests must reserve a timed ticket in advance of their visit.
