Summer Session (Undergraduates)
Financial aid for summer session 2024 is available in the form of grants/scholarships and/or loans for Brandeis University undergraduate students who are active, full-time matriculants in a degree program.
Funding is not available to visiting students, students matriculated for a term that starts after summer 2024, or students currently graduated, withdrawn or on leave.
Federal Grants
The amount of federal grants (i.e., Pell Grant) and/or loans (i.e., Stafford Loans) a student can receive for the summer term will be based on their remaining eligibility from the most recently completed academic year.
Brandeis Need-Based Aid
The amount of Brandeis need-based grant aid a student can receive for the summer term will be based on their financial need from the most recently completed academic year (see chart below) for a minimum of four total credits, and up to a maximum of 12 total credits, in the Brandeis Summer School.
Eligibility
Need-based grant aid is available to eligible students for a maximum of two summers per student, and can only be used for Brandeis Summer School courses. Grant will not be available for courses taken at other institutions nor for summer study abroad programs. Brandeis summer need-based grant aid is available for tuition charges only.
Requirements
Students are required to take at least four credits in order to maintain summer Brandeis need-based grant aid; students are required to take at least six credits to retain all sources of summer federal aid. Summer Session financial aid eligibility will be initially determined based on the enrollment information provided on your Brandeis Summer Session 2024 Financial Aid Inquiry Form. Your financial aid will be finalized based on your actual enrollment.
Any change to your enrollment, courses, or credit hours, may affect your aid. Students are required to notify SFS in writing of any changes made to summer enrollment. Failure to provide notification of enrollment changes may result in a balance owed on your student account. Aid will be adjusted if enrollment is changed, making the student responsible for the payment of all late withdrawal fees.

To qualify for Brandeis need-based grant, you must fit the following criteria:
- Must be an active, full time, matriculated Brandeis student enrolled in a degree program (cannot be graduated, withdrawn, on leave, visiting from another institution, or matriculated for a term that begins after summer 2024)
- Must be enrolled in at least four total credits (six credits for federal financial aid) in the Brandeis Summer School (does not include summer study abroad or courses at other institutions); funding is limited to no more than 12 credits

If enrolled in at least six credits, you may use any unused federal aid from the most recently completed academic year (e.g., Pell Grant, Stafford Loan, etc.), as well as Federal PLUS Loan, for these purposes. A student can receive Brandeis need-based grant for no more than two summers.
You can use your merit scholarship funds toward your summer tuition expenses, however, the summer term would count as one of the maximum eight semesters for which you can use your merit scholarship. If you currently qualify for need-based scholarship in addition to your merit scholarship, you can choose to use need-based scholarship funds only during the summer to preserve your merit scholarship expiration date. If you decide to utilize your merit scholarship during the summer, it will be prorated based on the tuition charged. To apply for summer financial aid, you must complete a Brandeis Summer Session 2024 Financial Aid Inquiry Form in addition to the standard financial aid application required for the most recently completed academic year (2023-24 CSS Profile, 2023-24 FAFSA, 2021 student and parent tax returns).
Due to funding limitations, Federal Work-Study is not available during the summer session. However, you may still work on campus.
If you withdraw from one or more Summer School courses, tuition will be prorated in accordance with the summer refund policy.
Students are required to take at least four credits, between both sessions, in order to maintain summer Brandeis need-based grant aid; students are required to take at least six credits, between both sessions, to retain all sources of summer federal aid. If you drop below four credits, your need-based Brandeis grant will be prorated on the same basis as your tuition charges (e.g., if you drop a course and your tuition is prorated at 50%, your Brandeis need-based grant will be reduced by 50% as well). If you drop below six credits, your federal financial aid will be prorated based on the federal Return of Title IV Funds policy. If you are enrolled in both summer sessions, receive federal aid, and withdraw from the second summer session, your aid for the first session may be affected
