Current Project

The biography of Catherine Filene Shouse (1896-1994) will explore 20th century feminism, philanthropy and civic engagement.  Born to the Boston department store family, Kay Shouse wrote Careers for Women in 1922 and founded Wolf Trap Farm Park near Washington, D.C. in 1968, the only public performing arts center in the nation.

Biography

Ann W. Caldwell is President Emerita of the MGH Institute of Health Professions, a degree granting graduate school affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital, where she served for ten years.  She began her career as a newspaper reporter and was editor of the Harvard Graduate School of Education alumni magazine and research newsletter.  She was a writer and editor for the Radcliffe Institute and for an early conference on feminist scholarship.  She formerly served as Vice President for Resources at Wheaton College and then Vice President for Development at Brown University, the first woman to be chief development officer in the Ivy League.
 
She recently served as chair of the Commission on Women in Higher Education of the American Council on Education and is currently a trustee of the American College of Greece and a member of the board of the Brigham and Women’s Center for Surgery and Public Health, a joint initiative of the Harvard Medical School and the School of Public Health.
