Tax Information
Important! You must file your taxes for 2007 on or before:
- April 15, 2008 if you have U.S. sources of income, or
- June 13, 2008 if you have no U.S. source income. (We recommend you file Form 8843 by April 15, 2008).
ALL international students and scholars who were physically here during the year 2007 must file Form 8843, "Statement for Exempt Individuals with a Medical Condition". The purpose of this form is to confirm your non-resident status. If you earned income, you should have received, in the mail, W-2 form from your employer, or you may receive Form 1042-S sometime in March if you claimed a tax treaty or received funding from Brandeis that is not taxable. If you have earned income in the U.S., you will need the form W-2 and / or form 1042-S to file your tax return.
Many students and scholars find that completing tax forms can be complicated. Our office purchases a group license for CINTAX, a tax software specializing in completing tax forms for international students and scholars. You may purchase the software for $5 (cash only please) at the ISSO and we will email you a login and password the same day.
