Physician Alan Rubin retired from seeing patients when he reached his 70th birthday. He continues to write medical books for the “For Dummies” series, which he has done since 1998. His titles include “Diabetes for Dummies,” “Diabetes Cookbook for Dummies,” “Thyroid for Dummies,” “High Blood Pressure for Dummies,” “Type 1 Diabetes for Dummies,” “Prediabetes for Dummies” and “Vitamin D for Dummies.” “Diabetes for Dummies” has sold more than a million copies and is on its third edition. His books have been translated into 15 languages. Alan’s daughter, Renee Ross, is the mother of two daughters and has been a postgraduate fellow at Brandeis for the last two years.
