Class Correspondent

Hi, everyone! As always, it is so nice to hear about all the wonderful things class members are doing. Just five years out of the ’Deis, and people are already well on their ways to fame and fortune while making this world a better place! As for me, I recently said goodbye to USA Network as I was promoted within NBC Universal to marketing coordinator at NBC Local Media. I’m working on brand management and marketing campaigns for NBC-owned and -operated affiliate stations.

Samantha Brinn, daughter of David ’76 and Beverly Brinn, married David Merel on Oct. 10, 2010. Judith Lupatkin, Mira Abramsohn and Shanna Nussbaum were in the wedding party. Also in attendance were Jessica Abramowitz, Samantha Pohl, Kira Herskowitz Sunshine, Sarah Black, Josh Sunshine ’04, Debra Alper Weiss ’04 and Glen Prives ’06.

Samantha Raizen and Russell Walsh will be getting married on July 10 in Denver.

co-founded NextGen:Charity, the leading conference on nonprofit innovation (nextgencharity.com). He is also performing regularly at the legendary Dangerfield’s comedy club and other clubs around New York City. His organization, JCorps, is now in 13 cities around the world.

Gila Ward and Erol Menda were married on Sept. 5, 2010, in White Plains, N.Y. Alumni in attendance included Chelsea Keyser, Jessica Santillo, Jenna Smith, Tamara Sturges, Sarah Light, Samantha Raizin, and Brandeis mother and daughter Joan (Hamerman) Robbins ’53 and Rebecca Robbins ’84. Gila is a program specialist at the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee. Originally from Istanbul, Erol has lived in New York for 10 years and is a senior financial analyst at Pepsi.

Karen Schreiber Zwillenberg
had a baby boy, Jacob Lev, on Aug. 11, 2010. Arnon Shorr produced and directed “A Modest Suggestion,” a feature-length satirical comedy about anti-Semitism. It wrapped production in October 2010 and is expected to hit the festival circuit in 2011. For updates, visit amodestsuggestion.blogspot.com.

Alex Bakst and his girlfriend, Heather, moved to Berlin, where he’s launched a freelance journalism office called GermanBureau (germanbureau.com) to report environment and culture stories from Germany for U.S. media, including National Public Radio.

Anna Rakhman is finishing up a Ph.D. in economics at George Washington University.

Brett Lowitz and Michael Gotlib ’04 were married on Oct. 10, 2010.

Seth Goodman
is engaged to Michelle Avioli, whom he met during his time in Waltham. He is also completing his third year of law school and has expanded his corporation, Flame Thrower, into three different states.

Julia Barnathan and Aaron Skolnik were married on June 28, 2009. Aaron graduated from Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine in May 2010 and is doing a residency in radiology at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia.

Natasha (Rabinovich) Buckler is lead clerk with Chief Justice Paul A. Suttell at the Rhode Island Supreme Court. She and her husband bought a house in East Providence, R.I. They also have a new golden retriever puppy named Layla.

Elana (Blumenthal) Kahn, M.A.’06
, is back in school taking prerequisites for nursing school. She plans to begin nursing school in the fall and pursue a master’s program in midwifery after she obtains her R.N.

Hayley Tozeski graduated from Georgetown University Law Center cum laude in May. After assisting with the prosecution of homicides in the District Attorney’s Office in Worcester, Mass., she began working as a litigation associate at Willkie Farr & 
Gallagher in New York City. She is admitted to practice law in Massachusetts and New York.

Scott Shafrin married Jessica Erin Koss on July 25, 2010, at the Bet Am Shalom Synagogue in White Plains, N.Y. They are both students in rabbinical studies at the American Jewish University in Los Angeles, where they met and from which he has a master’s in education.

Lisa Primer married Jason Petitte in Chicago on Sept. 4, 2010.

Rebecca Katz is pursuing a doctorate in literacy and literacy education at Boston University. She was awarded the School of Education’s Glenn Fellowship, its top doctoral scholarship.

Elnatan Reisner and Lianna Levine Reisner ’06 had a baby girl, Maayan Dina Reisner, on Oct. 15, 2010.
