Class Correspondent

Hello, Class of 2006! Hope the winter finds you well. I currently live in Brighton and had the good fortune to serve as communications director for Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick’s successful re-election bid. I was recently named the governor’s press secretary. I’m looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Reunion in June.

Anna Nguyen is as an Equal Justice Works Fellow and attorney at the Asian outreach unit of Greater Boston Legal Services.

Ilana Snapstailer serves as director of academic affairs at the Israeli consulate in Boston and lives in Brookline.

Gwen Tulin is the artistic director of Brain Surgeon Theater (brainsurgeontheater.org) in Chicago. She is also pursuing an M.F.A. in interdisciplinary arts and media at Columbia College.

Joshua Simmons
received a juris doctor from Columbia Law School on March 14, 2010. He was awarded the Carol G. Harper Prize for excellence in intellectual property studies and writing. In the fall, he joined the New York office of Kirkland & Ellis as an associate.

Jessie Podell and Ryan Pressman were married on Oct. 3, 2010, in Glen Ridge, N.J. Jessie is a director of sales for Bluewolf, a technology consultancy, in New York. She also had a supporting role in “The Stoop,” a 2009 film. Ryan received a master of fine arts degree in painting from Boston University, where two of his paintings were displayed at the 808 Gallery as part of the Boston Young Contemporaries Exhibition.

David Cutler teaches U.S. history and government at a private school in Miami. He also coaches cross-country.

Martin Kaminski graduated from the Medical University of Warsaw in Poland.

Lauren Feig
earned a master’s in social work and is a therapist for at-risk youth.

Laurinda Uang graduated from law school and works as an attorney at a small general-practice firm in Boston.

Ross Reitman
made his first trip to Europe and hit the three-year mark at his current job.

Jason Hyne works as a law clerk to a U.S. magistrate judge in Hartford. He lives with his girlfriend, Elissa Glucksman, in West Hartford. He recently accepted an associate position at Cole, Schotz, Meisel, Forman & Leonard in New York City that begins in September.

Miranda Kosowsky is in the midst of rabbinical school after spending the last academic year in Israel. She is engaged to be married this summer.

Afton Cotton works at New England Conservatory as manager of community performances and partnerships programs. In her spare time, she’s creating her own line of jams and jellies under the label Pigeon Hill Preserves. She was profiled in a recent story in the Boston Globe.

Rebecca Hanus is a licensed social worker in New York and is pursuing a Ph.D.

Saeyoung Naomi Chung is a third-year law student at the University of Chicago.

Ben Mervak is in medical school at the University of Michigan. He hopes to pursue a career in radiology.

Shira Goldstein moved to Philadelphia and works as a curatorial assistant at the National Museum of American Jewish History.

Dawn Miller graduated from the University of Virginia’s School of Law in May 2010.

Lisa Friedman teaches fifth grade.

Jennifer Pollack is pursuing teacher certification in adolescent social studies.

Erica Sorrentino works as a research coordinator at Shriners Hospital in Boston and is completing a postbaccalaureate program at Harvard in preparation for medical school.

Stacey Chan is pursuing a Ph.D. in economics at Boston College.

Aaron Miller and Lauren Apfelbaum Miller live in Cincinnati. Aaron is a fifth-year student at Hebrew Union College and will be ordained in May. Lauren is a strategic planner at an advertising agency and is applying to business school.

David Fried is in rabbinical school at Yeshivat Chovevei Torah.

Patricia Carbone is an associate attorney at A. Brian Phillips in Orlando, Fla.

Jessica Goldings works for the U.S. Department of Defense and is studying counterterrorism at Georgetown University.

Tara Steinberg and Nathan Goldman were married on Aug. 8, 2010, in Tarrytown, N.Y. Many alumni attended. The couple currently resides in New York City.

After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law with the National Association of Women Lawyers Outstanding Law Student Award, Catherine Heffernan has accepted a position with the Community Education Group, a nonprofit located in D.C. Catherine is a member of the Reunion committee and looks forward to seeing everyone in June.

Jessica Dillon and Aaron Hoffmann are engaged and will get married in Boston during the summer.

Andrey Levin is pursuing an M.B.A. at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth and is getting married in August.

Laura Mariani married Elliot Kendall ’04 on Jan. 22 and is pursuing a doctorate in neuroscience at Emory.

After a year-plus in Seattle, where their beloved daughter, Adira, was born in February 2010, Robert and Kate (Brophy) Friedman have moved back to St. Louis. They write, “Robert works for his family’s law firm, and Kate is busy and loving being a stay-at-home mom. Kate lost her mom on Oct. 2, 2010, after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer.”

Rachel Ginsberg and Gregory Vikingstad ’05 were married on Oct. 9, 2010, on Long Island. Twenty-five of the couple’s closest friends from Brandeis were in attendance.

News from Jason and Rachel Goldsmith: She defended her Ph.D. in the Department of Pathology and Lab Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on Dec. 10, 2010.  He is in his fifth year of the M.D./Ph.D. program at the school.

Micah Hahn is working toward a Ph.D. in population health/environment and resources at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She also works as program director for the sustainable agriculture organization on campus.

Marissa Collins will marry Daniel Short, a member of the Rochester Institute of Technology Class of 2004, on Oct. 16, 2011, in Woodstock, Md. They live in Greenbelt, Md.

Andrew Davies is an actor and teacher in New York City. His latest project is a Kid’s Comedy Bible Show (thebibleplayers.com).

Mona Doss is attending medical school at the University of New England. She will be taking her step-one boards in June so won’t be able attend Reunion.

Andrew Katz, M.A.’07, and Sarah Passarelli ’07 are engaged.

Bailey Orshan works for the federal government doing health care policy analysis and is pursuing a master of public administration degree.

Rebecca Hanus spoke at the annual tribute dinner of the American and International Societies for Yad Vashem in New York. She is active in the group’s Young Leadership Associates.

Jeffrey Fowler is pursuing a Ph.D. in theology at the University of Chicago.
