David Katz, a partner with Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, was elected to the board of directors of the Partnership for a Drug-Free America. “With his impressive background and leadership in the legal community, together with his personal and family commitment to volunteering in support of their local drug and alcohol abuse prevention coalition, he will bring unique perspective and valuable insight to our organization,” partnership chair Patricia Russo said. “I am certain David will play a vital role in furthering our mission to help parents prevent, intervene in and find treatment for drug and alcohol use by their children.”

President Barack Obama nominated Warren Michael Stern to serve as director of the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office at the Department of Homeland Security. Warren has served as senior adviser in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Nonproliferation. He has also been head of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s Incident and Emergency Center, where he led international efforts to prepare for and respond to nuclear and radiation emergencies and created the Response Assistance Network.

Ellen (Baker) and Michael Weiss ’84 are proud to announce that their daughter Lindsey ’14 is a student at Brandeis.

Dwayne Follette
was named football coach at Plymouth North High School in his native Plymouth, Mass. A 1980 graduate of the town’s former school, Plymouth-Carver High, Follette had served as the team’s defensive coordinator the last five seasons and was its offensive coordinator the previous four. Follette has also guided Plymouth North’s baseball team for 17 years, winning the state Division 2 championship in 2008. He was a standout catcher at Brandeis.

Shira Sanders
lives in Eshchar in northern Israel with her husband, Raphael, and daughters Gitit (15), Tair (14) and Yotal (12). A clinical psychologist, she works as the resource coordinator of the Haifa Rape Crisis Center, sits on the parole board of northern Israel, and is a group therapist for juvenile sex offenders.

As managing director at the Partnership for Democracy and Education, Jeffrey Thomas helps major donors and the organizations they fund shift political power to women and people of color from low-income communities. Jeffrey has developed public policy advocacy programs for many nonprofits. He has served as district director for Congresswoman Barbara Lee and was a policy staffer for Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Urologist Paul Aaronson completed his one-year term as president of the Medical Society of the County of Queens in New York.
